A week in Santorini Greece

At the end of July I was lucky enough to meet some of my family in Santorini for a summer escape. It’s so picturesque and it’s exactly the way you’d imagine Greece to be. We stayed in Kamari for the week and a short 10 minute walk took us down to the beach front which was packed with shops and restaurants. Kamari is only about a 20-25 minute drive from Oui – the most popular part of Santorini you see in photos – and is a much cheaper place to stay.

Eating in Greece wasn’t the easiest for me as there was a lot of Pasta, Bread and Greek yogurt! Normally I try to avoid foods containing gluten and dairy as I feel better excluding them, however I did relax a little during the trip. There are certainly fresh food options at a reasonable price point in Kamari, though being on holiday I wanted to make the most of the local cuisine.

We waited until we arrived in Santorini to book our tours – we went on a fishing tour and a swimming trip. If you can read reviews before booking I would advise it as we did not do this and were slightly disappointed with the quality! There are lots of activities to do in Kamari including water sports. A few of us took a ride on an inflatable banana which was an experience to say the least. The owner towed us around to the side of the island out of view and started tearing through the water, throwing us all off the back colliding with one another! Not so funny at the time but hilarious when we reminisce!

I’d recommend Santorini to anybody looking for a relaxing holiday; only 3 hours from Bristol airport in the UK it’s perfect for a quick getaway. Though there are things to do, depending on where you stay it is a quiet place and great to recharge your batteries… and get a tan!
